The ENAR (Electro-Neuro-Adaptive-Regulator) is a hand-held therapeutic device that is moved over the body to find and treat disorders, through the skin.

The ENAR uses reflex biofeedback, a dynamic computer-modulated interactive electro-stimulation, between itself and the soft tissue. By responding to physiological changes in the soft tissue the ENAR is able to effect the nervous system’s natural adaptive functioning, the universal basis to all healing.

As such, it is said that the ENAR can be used for the treatment of a very wide variety of painful syndromes.

Where did the ENAR come from?

The ENAR technology was first developed in the 1970’s  was subsequently developedand has been improved over the years.

Scientists have reported very promising anecdotal evidence to support its use, resulting in ENAR therapy’s popularity in Europe as an alternative to more conventional pain control and treatment strategies… and ENAR was reportedly used the Russians as their ’secret weapon’ during the 2004 Olympics.

Sounds great, but does it really work?

A pilot study completed by the Department of Health and Chiropractic at Macquarie University proves not only that ENAR works, but that it works faster than conventional TENS (Transcutaneous Electro Neuro Stimulation) treatment and that the benefits of treatment after active treatment has ceased is greater than for those treated by TENS.

ENAR is different.

ENAR THERAPY is a new type of electro-energetic modality that promises very fast pain relief and functional restoration.

Unlike the conventional TENS machine, the ENAR does not block pain signals, but prompts healthy nerve response. What are the effects of ENAR compared to the conventional TENS?

In Macquarie University, (Sydney Australia) the effects of ENAR Therapy were compared to TENS in formal randomised control research that was peer-reviewed and published.

The research trial study confirmed:

“CONCLUSION : ENAR therapy participants reported a significant reduction in the intensity of neck pain (VAS) and disability (NDI), as well as a significant increased function (PSFS) and overall quality of life (SF-36), than TENS or control intervention (Sham) participants.”

How does ENAR interactivity differ from conventional TENS Machines?

TENS machines simply act with an electrical impulse that is more powerful than the nerve signal of pain. (Pain Gate Theory) In this way the signal overrides the pain signal and pain perception may be reduced.  In other words, it hides the pain without treating the cause.

Conventional TENS therapy machines do not employ any form of biofeedback.

ENAR INTERACTIVE TENS EFFECT – ENAR has a complex electrical impulse that works its effect by the inter-acting ENAR electrical impulse changing dynamically during its application. The dynamic changes of the ENAR impulse are controlled by reflex bio-feedback, which is linked directly to, and provided by, the skin’s changing electrical impedance or resistance, which is in turn due to the ENAR’s impulse.

Therefore ENAR’s interactivity has the ability to change its signal characteristics in sync with the bodies may often produce both a Pain Reduction and Functional Improvement.

ENAR university research trials showed the chronic pain reduction, functional improvements and rehabilitation were all achieved and sustained for the follow-up assessments over six months, thus indicating a therapeutic effect by ENAR rather than just a symptomatic suppression.
